Read Outdoors: StoryWalks®, Strolls & Hikes

What’s A StoryWalk®?

A StoryWalk®, Story Stroll, Story Hike, or Storybook Trail is a way to combine physical activity with literacy. It’s a great way to get people of all ages outside moving while reading a book. Pages of a book are transformed into signs and laid out on a trail to read while you move along.

The StoryWalk® Project was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, VT and developed in collaboration with the Kellogg-Hubbard Library with a mission to promote early literacy, physical activity, and family time together in nature, according to the Kellogg-Hubbard Library’s website.

StoryWalks® can be found in all 50 states, including southeast Wisconsin. They are also all over the world including Germany, Canada, England, Bermuda, Russia, Malaysia, Pakistan and South Korea.
