Children’s Materials Collection and Customer Service Librarian – Waukesha Public Library

Bring your love of children’s literature and serving the public to the Waukesha Public Library! The Library seeks a highly motivated, tech savvy, public service-oriented individual with experience in overseeing collection development for children’s materials, as well as reference and readers’ advisory. The 2024 starting salary for this position is $54,548.
Schedule includes weekdays, evening, and weekend hours.

THE POSITION: As part of the Materials Collection team, the person in this position will oversee many aspects of the children’s collection, including materials selection, weeding, and cataloging. The individual in this position will also work at our busy public service desks, providing reference services, readers’ advisory and excellent customer service to the community.

JOB REQUIREMENTS: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master’s Degree in Library Science; knowledge of trends in children’s collection development; excellent oral and written communication; a great customer service attitude; ability to analyze statistical data and evaluate collections; ability to work independently or as part of a dynamic team; ability to meet the varying needs of a diverse community; the ability to prioritize a varied workload; understanding of public library policies; and knowledge of information resources available from other libraries, the library system and other sources in the community, county and state. Public library experience essential, intermediate knowledge of Spanish desired.

Driver / Sorter – South Central Library System (SCLS)

The South Central Library System (SCLS), based in Madison, Wisconsin, is seeking a full-time sorter/driver (“Driver II”).

General Description
The Driver II is the staff member responsible for the delivery of library materials on scheduled routes throughout Wisconsin. The Driver II is responsible for the safe operation, routine inspection and cleanliness of the delivery vehicle as well as ensuring accurate and friendly material exchanges. The Driver II is also responsible for accurate, neat and timely sorting and packing of library materials at our delivery facility as well as loading and unloading vehicles.

Qualifications

  • High school education or equivalent.
  • Two years delivery/route driving experience required.
  •  Customer service experience preferred but not required.
  • Good reading and writing ability.
  • Good interpersonal communication skills.
  • Good manual dexterity.
  • Valid regular driver’s license with no restrictions except corrective lenses.
  • Clean driving record is required.
  • Ability to read & interpret highway and street maps and written directions.
  • Ability to work independently, at times under adverse road conditions, with driving endurance skills necessary to drive for periods up to 11 hours.
  • Good physical condition required to lift repeatedly containers weighing up to 40 lbs. to a height of 5 feet, and occasionally lift up to 60 lbs. Must be able to stand one one’s feet for up to 6 hours at a time.

Schedule
40 hours per week, M-F. Specific schedule TBD, but all shifts will fall between 6:30am-6:30pm. No uniforms! No weekends!
Starting pay is $15.72 with an increase on 1/1/24 to $16.68. Raises every six months of continuous, satisfactory employment until top of pay scale ($19.51) is reached.
